Rahila Talash (Ansari)

About

Rahil Talash (Ansari), born in Balkh Province, is a graduate in Law and Political Science with a focus on International Relations. She began her professional career as a literacy teacher and later worked in private banking from 2014. In 2017, she joined the UN-Habitat office in northern Afghanistan and continued her service there until 2019.

Alongside her official roles, Rahil has been actively engaged in social work. In 2018, she served as Deputy of the Northern Afghanistan Youth Organization in Balkh. After relocating to Kabul, she joined the Ministry of Communications in 2020 and worked in the Afghan Telecom sector.

Following the fall of Kabul in 2021, Rahil became one of the first women protesters, taking to the streets to speak out against the Taliban’s occupation and widespread violations of women’s rights. Her activism put her at direct risk of Taliban threats, forcing her to move multiple times until she finally left Afghanistan on November 4, 2021, and sought refuge in Pakistan.

In Pakistan, Rahil continued her advocacy, organizing and leading over 50 protests and programs addressing women’s rights and the broader human rights crisis in Afghanistan. She also supported Afghan migrants through interpretation, counseling, and emergency assistance, engaging with Pakistani authorities to prevent deportations and secure legal and personal protection for Afghan refugees, especially women.

Rahil’s ultimate goal is to achieve gender equality and ensure women have equal status with men in society. She believes that gender equality is the key to true national development. Through advocacy, awareness-raising, and persistent activism, she strives to empower women to claim their rightful place in social, political, and cultural life. Rahil Talash (Ansari) recently obtained refuge in France, from where she continues her work and activism.
