The Women’s Justice Movement (WJM) held an online cultural and social discussion on October 4, 2026, marking the birth anniversary of Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi and exploring his literary legacy, the place of the Persian language, and challenges facing Persian in Afghanistan.
The discussion, titled “Rumi and the Persian Language: From Cultural Heritage to the Challenge of Anti-Persian Sentiment in Afghanistan,” was held as a Space on X. It brought together speakers Ehsan Badakhshani and Abdulmanan Shiwai Sharq, with Fahima Sais Darwazi serving as moderator.
Speakers Discuss Rumi’s Literary and Cultural Legacy
During the discussion, participants examined Rumi’s position in Persian literature and culture, his intellectual and literary legacy, and the role of the Persian language in preserving and transmitting this heritage across generations.
Ehsan Badakhshani spoke about Rumi’s place in Persian literature and culture and read several verses from his works, highlighting aspects of Rumi’s literary and intellectual thought.
Abdulmanan Shiwai Sharq also discussed Rumi’s cultural significance and the role of Persian in the region’s literary and cultural history. He emphasized the importance of the language in shaping, preserving and passing on cultural and literary heritage.
