Richard Lindsey, the UK Special Representative for Afghanistan, has stated that the United Kingdom stands alongside Afghan women and girls and is committed to supporting their rights.

Speaking on Sunday, 7 March 2026, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Lindsey emphasized that the rights of Afghan women and girls are fundamental to families, communities, and the future of Afghanistan.

He stressed that the UK is committed to ending violence against women and girls and supports all efforts to protect their rights.

The UK Special Representative for Afghanistan also affirmed that Afghan women and girls will remain at the center of the UK’s foreign policy.

This statement comes at a time when women and girls in Afghanistan are deprived of even the most basic social rights. The Taliban’s restrictive policies have marginalized them across educational, cultural, political, and economic spheres.
